Almost finished construction phase
87 hours on hull
$2600 AUS spent - (this includes glass sheet and enough epoxy to finish)
Now the really crappy work begins--glassing and fairing the ENTIRE hull
Sorry to those who have been following this build------it going to be a LONG TIME before the next update. I expect the glassing and fairing phase to take quite a while.

For those who are still thinking about building; I started with no experience, but a lot of common sense and asked a lot of questions (thanks you to TTB, Kevin, and others).
To those who are waiting to have the money to complete before starting; I have started without the money to complete 'Shazza' so it may be some time yet before it is in the water. Just start building with the money you have. I epoxied everything as I went for two reasons--1) The humidity in Brisbane in summer can be quite bad so epoxying everything will stop the ply from distorting in the short term at least 2) If I had to stop the build for any reason I knew it would all still be good when I got back to it.
As others have said-- parts for your build will turn up if you're happy to use second hand bits (which I will in some cases), if you're not a member of a sailing or yacht club---JOIN ONE, this will be where you will make a lot of great friends and find the bits and pieces you want. And possibly end up with mates with skills you can make use of over a few beers?
I'm lucky that I have a mate who's a sail maker and a father who is very handy with a welder (trailer) and I happen to work in the timber industry--experience with timber/ carpentry and cheap ply.
Great to see all the other builders getting stuck in--
no need to wish anyone good luck with there builds,
it will all come together in the end
and we will all enjoy, as long as we remember why we are building--
TO ENJOY THE I550 EXPERIENCE
and not to compare the i550 to much more expensive sports boats or fast trailer sailors.
